END OF YEAR REVIEW

2001 : - Proved to be a tough year for the agency due to the development and implementation of two very significant and time consuming projects, namely Computers Within Reach and The Black Life Long Learning ICT Project. The former which has now ended, thus freeing up valuable agency time, and the latter now in full steam ahead after the lengthy negotiation stage between 10 partners as to the enabling agreement and delivery contract.

Staff - Events of key interest were the leaving of Trenton Wiggan, the Assistant Co-ordinator in March 2001, and the arrival of Pedro Fuentes, the new Training Manager in April 2001.

Training Projects - The main training project, previously under the ESF umbrella and now under the LSC, has been curtailed to some degree due to the continuing delay in release of funding.

SPAT-C & Computers Within Reach Program- Over the last 8 months SPAT-C has undertaken the heavy task of processing and dealing with on a day to day basis with in excess of 1000 clients wanting to apply for a computer at the subsidised rate of £60.

This extremely heavy and mostly unplanned for workload has taken a heavy toll on the charities limited resources, many of the planned activities for this year have been postponed, i.e. Internet on-training, ILA sponsored training, many of the existing programs such as European and ICT have also been effected, thus experiencing delays in implementation and programme schedules. The program was initated by the Asistant Co-ordinator who moved onto a new organisation called BCDP(SY) in March 2001.

The resources to cover the most basic costs of running this Programme have so far failed to materialise, thus SPAT-C is not in any position to deliver on-line training in any form, and apologises to the 250+ registered individuals who have been eagerly awaiting its commencement.
