: Happy New Year |
2002
: - Is likely to start with a boom, with many existing
projects gathering steam and coming online early in the year,
all indications are that SPAT-C is likely to experience explosive
growth during the coming year.
Staff - The number of full-time
staff is likely to double during the year from the present 6
to around 12, in addition many more tutors will joining SPAT-C
to varying degrees
Training Projects - The
main training project which has suffered delayed funding is
likely to fully come on-stream in late Jan 2001
ICT Project - The majority
of the 10 center's are likely to be fully online during Jan
2002, with all by March 2002, this will lead to a marked increase
in the range and number of training activities that the agency
will offer to a greatly increased number of beneficiaries, including
on-line training.
European Projects - New
European projects are in the pipeline, to take over from those
that are coming to an end such as Cultural Tools for Combating
Discrimination
Refugee Projects - Are likely
to continue to increase in the number and range of services
offered in addition to the ESOL support, organised group outings
(i.e. London), and musical events throughout the year. |
| END
OF YEAR REVIEW |
2001
: - Proved to be a tough year for the agency due
to the development and implementation of two very significant
and time consuming projects, namely Computers Within Reach
and The Black Life Long Learning ICT Project. The former
which has now ended, thus freeing up valuable agency time, and
the latter now in full steam ahead after the lengthy negotiation
stage between 10 partners as to the enabling agreement and delivery
contract.
Staff - Events of key interest
were the leaving of Trenton Wiggan, the Assistant Co-ordinator
in March 2001, and the arrival of Pedro Fuentes, the new Training
Manager in April 2001.
Training Projects - The
main training project, previously under the ESF umbrella and
now under the LSC, has been curtailed to some degree due to
the continuing delay in release of funding.
European Projects - A number
of transnational events have been held across Europe during
the year, culminating with the Sheffield 3 day Conference in
July 2001.
Refugee Projects - Apart
from the training aspect of refugee ESOL support, the refugee
projects have also organised various group outings (i.e. London)
and a number of musical events throughout the year. |

Centre Project - The SPAT-C BLLN ICT project gathers
steam as networking infrastructure is in the process of being
installed in all of the centres, ready for the installation

to mid January. Already 5 centres are delivering ICT training
to varying degrees using existing hardware. |

SPAT-C
& Computers Within Reach Program- Over the last
8 months SPAT-C has undertaken the heavy task of processing
and dealing with on a day to day basis with in excess of 1000
clients wanting to apply for a computer at the subsidised rate
of £60.
This extremely heavy and mostly
unplanned for workload has taken a heavy toll on the charities
limited resources, many of the planned activities for this year
have been postponed, i.e. Internet on-training, ILA sponsored
training, many of the existing programs such as European and
ICT have also been effected, thus experiencing delays in implementation
and programme schedules. The program was initated by the Asistant
Co-ordinator who moved onto a new organisation called BCDP(SY)
in March 2001.
The resources to cover the most
basic costs of running this Programme have so far failed to
materialise, thus SPAT-C is not in any position to deliver on-line
training in any form, and apologises to the 250+ registered
individuals who have been eagerly awaiting its commencement. |
