SOLID Training for Ex-Offenders Into Employment and Education

Aims of the training is to provide ex-offenders with skills such as

  • How to go about getting a job for yourselves
  • Personal skills for independent living (building your personal confidence, and learning how to put your best foot forward - Personal Finance — How to build positive relationship).
  • The benefits systems : How it works and, how to make sure you get your full rights etc.
  • How to avoid the re-offending trap. Also family and parents role in this.

These are some ideas we have, but would welcome you to participate and tell us what exactly will be useful for the user groups to learn, so that we can come up with the best possible training.

Light meal (yard food) will be provided
Assistance with bus fares

  Student Event: SPAT-C Graduation Ceremony - Thursday, 9 th November 2006

SPAT-C Graduation Ceremony

Thursday, 9 th November 2006 from 11.30 am to 2.00 pm

at the SYAC Centre, 120 Wicker, Sheffield

We are pleased to invite those of our trainees who have achieved OCN qualifications from SPAT-C.

The Lord Mayor of Sheffield , Cllr Jackie Drayton, will be the guest of honour and hand out the trainees awards at 12.00 pm onwards.

The graduation ceremony will coincide with the opening of an Arts exhibition, showcasing the paintings and artistic work of several of our trainees, and former students who attended our ‘ Art as Therapy' course (as well as SPAT-C's own collection).

A light lunch will be provided after the ceremony.

Opportunities for training in IELTS for non-English speaking students and professionals

Are you..

· at University doing IELTS and want extra tuition and support in the evenings/weekends (including writing, speaking English, etc.) or in your spare time;

· planning to enter University, College or to look for employment, but don’t feel confident about your English;

Then we have just the right part-time short course for you - with flexible hours and times.

Our courses are delivered by highly trained staff, experienced in teaching non-native speakers, at al levels from basic to advanced, including IELTS. The courses also include ‘learning by doing’ e.g. Leisure activities, museum visits, outings etc.

The course will start in September 2006 for 12 weeks, twice weekly for 3 hours each.

The course fee is £240 for 12 weeks for a total 72 learning hours.

SPAT-C Training Course: An Introduction to Exporting and Importing”

ENROLMENT DAY – 29 April 2005 10.00 am – 1.30 pm

Sheffield Positive Action Training Consortium (SPAT-C) is pleased to announce the launch of a new Export / Import Training Course.

You will be pleased to know that SPAT-C will be holding an Enrolment Day for the course in Exporting/Importing on Friday 29 April 2005 , between 10.00 am and 1.30 pm .

I shall be able also to gauge preferred times of the day for people attending the course as well as give an outline of the proposed syllabus the course will cover. If you are unable to attend the enrolment day, please let me know. My contact details are as follows:

  Refugee & Asylum Seekers: THE SPAT-C Music Class – Teaching Guitar and Electronic Keyboard playing.

THE SPAT-C Music Class – Teaching Guitar and Electronic Keyboard playing.

The music class is taught by Mr Jamshid Kinani (who has some 30 years music experience). There are 15 places open primarily to Asylum Seekers and Refugees, (the course is open to anyone else, subject to demand and places).

SPAT-C Music Class - Guitar and Keyboard

The course started on 15th January 2004, and is scheduled to run for 12 weeks until 3rd April 2004. The classes are held twice weekly at 3 hours per session. Thursday 3.30pm to 6.30pm and Saturday 11pm to 2pm.

Course outline and general progression.
Guitar
• Basics of music
• Chord construction
• The chord number system
• Various right hand strumming techniques
• Correct timing
• The secrets of song arranging
• Chords in the first position
• Minor chords
• Using minor chords in songs
• Barre and little finger exercises
• Alternating bass right hand strums
• Tuning the guitar
• Playing minor keys
• How to use the capo
• Playing songs

Keyboards
• Keyboard techniques - Encourage using different fingers for each note (rather than one finger for all the notes).
• Note names
• Keyboard management
• Musical notation, either traditional or more simple lettered notation
