Articles and Reviews: Sheffield Wicker Flood of 2007 - Timeline at SPAT-C, SYAC Centre

The day for Sheffield, a northern English city started as usual, wet and rainy, yes there have been forecasts for a wet June and possible flooding in Northern England, but Sheffielders felt safe in the knowledge that their hilly city is not prone to flooding.

Not even Sheffielders remember when the last big floods occurred. Digging back into history you would have to back over 150 years to 1864 when the Dale Dyke Dam burst.

SPAT-C situated at the SYAC Centre on the river bank felt the full force of the flooding as the following time-line and the news reporting illustrates:

Sheffiled Flooding 2007 -The River Don that runs through the heart of the city was a raging torrent

1.30pm - The River Don that runs through the heart of the city was a raging torrent, but in the near 15 years we have been in our current premises, I have seen this many times before, many times.

A colleague suggests that the river is going to burst its banks, having only been with us for barely 2 years, he obviously was not party to my inside knowledge that it has never flooded in at least 15 years, nor have I known any serious flooding in Sheffield in the 40 years I have lived here. So I ask my colleague to put his money where his mouth is, a bet ! "I bet you £50 the river won't burst". But he won't take the bet !

About 10 min's later, 1.40pm with the waters rising, I venture out to take a closer look.

Alienware Aurora - The best PC Spec and build on the planet !

Having spent much time researching on the best build, spec, reliability and looks. We finally settled on the Alienware Aurora range of PC's and having now received and used the PC for over three weeks, we are NOT disappointed

Alienware allows potential buyers to tailor the specifications to their exact requirements and build and test to a high specification. It seems they go the extra mile in ensuring quality of build !

Alienware's case designers seemed to hit the right note of sophisticated gaming coolness. Unlike many gaming PCs that look like they were designed for an amusement park, the Aurora has a shinny, curved black case (other colors are available) with dual silver ventilation grilles that wrap around the sides--a sort of neo-art deco, Flash Gordon feel we found quite attractive. The machine features plenty of open bays and slots for expansion, including three externally accessible and four internal bays, along with two open RAM slots and four open 32-bit slots. Alienware rounds out this gem with well-organized documentation covering the system's every component.

Alienware - Gaming PC for PC Gaming

This Aurora is what Alienware does best. It's powerful, well-designed, and has a sophisticated cool that will appeal to more than the under-20 gaming set.

Our advice though is buy one and see for yourself, you won't be disappointed !!! Upto £200 rebate.
