SPAT-C provided critical capacity building support to a group of young people to develop their programme activities and a film enterprise (Compass Film Intl ltd) which has made remarkable progress in the short space of months. They are now poised to put on their first ever Film Festival on the genre of ‘horror films' at some of the most prestigious venues in Bristol . The festival will showcase the best of horror films from across the globe ( Japan : ‘Rampo Noir'; Canada : ‘Ginger Snaps', ‘Nigeria End of the Wicked' and England : ‘The Dust Devil'

The COMPASS of Horror International Film Festival

In attendance will be top most film artist and film directors from Japan , Nigeria , Canada and Sweden as well as film academics from Brunell University , University of Bristol , and University of West England .

The film presentations have been marketed in a way so as to attract diverse audiences, rather than the usual horror film buffs, so as to widen audience participation of films from across the globe. Each film is followed by a discussion session between the audience, academics, and actors and directors present.

Cultural Events: Black History Month Celebrated by SPAT-C on 6th of November 2003

Black History Month Celebrated by SPAT-C on 6th of November 2003

Held every year in Britain is to

  • Promote knowledge of Black History and experience
  • Disseminate information on positive Black contributions to British Society
  • Heighten the confidence and awareness of Black people in their cultural heritage.

The origins of BHM go back to 1926 when Carter G Woodson, editor for thirty years of the Journal of Negro History, established African Caribbean celebrations in America. It is still celebrated there in February each year. In Britain, the BHM has now grown to over 1400 events.

SPAT-C and fellow tenant agencies as well as the Centre managers opened up their rooms and offices to publicise their activities and services in the context of black history.

Tree Planting - By SPAT-C Environment Project Officers, Maxwell Ayamba and Diane Tottle, around the SYAC Centre Building. Also featuring SPAT-C Staff member Anne Wells, and volunteer Miriam Nekukar.

Children from the Centre nursery helped plant flower blumbs around the centre.

Various displays and presentations promoting Black and Carribean History were staged

A Large Wall Murial painted by the SPAT-C Resident Artist - Vahid Sabaghian - depicting the various agencies that are resident in the centre, which include SPAT-C - (Projected supported by the Home office, European Union and LSC).

Cultural Events: Abbey Field Park - Multi-Cultural Festival - July 2003
Abbeyfield Park Multicultural Festival held in the Burngreave area of Sheffield was a resounding success, event better than last year with more people and more stalls. An estimated 5,000 people attended the cultural event organised by Green City Action.
SPAT-C made their presence felt with their own stall displaying some of the newer activities including publicising its European Union Refugee programme and SEED Funded SHEBEEN

SPAT-C's environment project SHEBEEN. Which included displays on activities as well as face painting for the youngsters. SPAT-C resident Artist, Vahid - With a display of his art work as well as open air workshop.

Key SPAT-C Staff were out and about publicising the agency activities, as well as enjoying the festival..
Satish Sachdeva - SPAT-C CEONadeem Walayat - ICT Manager and IT Expert

The Chief Executive (Satish Sachdeva) - Out in force and unstoppable as he goes from person to person

Nadeem Walayat - ICT Manager- Takes a break, between discussing SPAT-C's intensive programme with members of the public.
The only negative was the fact that the festival had been postponed from an earlier date due to inefficiencies with Burngreave New Deal in actual disbursement of funds on time to even one of the most organised and established agencies in the area, let alone many of the smaller less experienced agencies - More on this topic on another day, after all today was Burngreave's day !.
